Wednesday 4th February – Cagliari (Retail therapy)

We were up and out this morning as we wanted to go to the outlet village just outside Cagliari for which there was a courtesy bus service we had used before Christmas.  Having wandered into town, via the chandlery for Richard, we waited in vain for the bus by the bus station at the appointed time.  Eventually I went across to the tourist information office to make enquiries and found out that the service no longer exists – bah.

So, a quick change of plan, we headed out to the large Carrefour shopping centre on another bus.  We had a very successful shopping spree:  I bought a bread maker, a birthday present from the P’s; Richard bought an espresso coffee maker for use on the gaz stove, an early birthday present for him, and I bought a milk frother so that I can have cappuccinos, a birthday present from my aunt.  We came home delighted and exhausted.

This evening David and Sarah invited us round to Cape for a game of scrabble; this turned out to simply be a ruse.  It was actually a late birthday party for me with a lovely chocolate cake complete with a discreet number of candles, in addition Sarah had painted me a fantastic watercolour of a couple of boats at sea – their timing was perfect with it also being the day we bought all our presents.  We had a great evening and returned to Pyxis late…

Recently we have downloaded some software for identifying stars in the night sky and discovered that we should be able to see the star constellation of Pyxis just above the horizon from Cagliari.   As the sky was quite clear when we returned to Pyxis, it seemed a good time to try.  We loaded up the software and identified where we should be looking.  Sadly, although we could identify Orion and Sirius clearly, the stars for Pyxis were too faint in the sky given the lights from the city.  We will have to try again.
