Monday 13th October – Cagliari (Poetto Beach)

We decided not to go for a hike today – so we took the bus instead J

We set off early afternoon, along with Stephen and Anne from Wandering Dragon, and caught the local bus heading towards Poetto Beach which runs along the western arc of the Golfo degli Angeli.

We stayed on the bus right to the end of its route and then returned back to the beach.  The bus took us out along the wide sweeping beach, past the large salt marshes complete with pink flamingos, and on out through more suburbs of Cagliari.  There were quite a lot of low rise apartment blocks along the way and quite a lot of building work going on.

When we returned to the beach we got off about half way along and then walked beside the sea towards the little marina in the near corner of the bay, sitting below a promontory known as Devil’s Saddle.  It was a pleasant sunny afternoon with a light breeze though a little hazy.  The beach was fine sand and the sea was clear and still quite warm.

After a quick drink in one of the small cafes on the beach, we carried on and explored the small marina at the end but found it is really for smaller boats and fishing boats rather than us.  We finally caught the bus back home and have had a quiet dinner on board.
