Monday 20th August – Morgat

48:13.438N 4:29.807W

Today’s weather checklist:

  Rain [√]

Low cloud, poor visibility and drizzle [√]

  Strong winds [√]

Gale force winds (in the marina!) [√]

  Not impressed [√]

Vowed never to grace the shores of Brittany again (unless sunshine guaranteed) [√]

We were grateful we had arranged for pain au chocolat to be delivered this morning as it started bucketing down when we got up and it would have been a wet walk to the boulangerie.

Shortly after, Customs officials visited the pontoon, inspecting some of the boats – the day didn’t appear to be getting any better.  Thankfully though, we weren’t required to be boarded – the last thing I needed was half a dozen customs officials dripping wet going through the boat.

The wind is due to remain strong over night and tomorrow.  We are looking forward to being able to move on as they start to ease, even a steady force 5-6 in the forecast would do at the moment – currently it’s all 7’s and 8’s.

A couple of strongly crewed commercial yachts made it into the marina today; needless to say, parking was non-trivial for them in the strong winds and required the mulitnational efforts of all those already pinned to the pontoon to get them alongside.

The rest of today has been given over to book.  As a light relief, I made crepes tonight.  Richard asked what was the difference between a crepe and a pancake; ‘Geography’ I replied.
