Monday 7th July – Punta de l’ Avançada, Mallorca

Another fitful night, this time because just after 3am the wind got up and we had strong gusts of wind whistling through for the rest of the night; this did cool us down a bit (it was 29 degrees down below) but the noise made sleeping difficult.

Our plan to lie in and get some sleep this morning stood no chance either.  Just beyond our moorings is a small sea plane base and yes, this morning, the sea plane was out early practicing its manoeuvres.  We think it is part of the civil defences here if there are any forest fires as, having taken off, we saw it drop down and scoop up water which it then proceeded to dump at points across the bay (thankfully not on us but it did get quite close).

This morning was quite cloudy but it has brightened up during the day and is now hot and sunny again.

After an afternoon with some sunbathing, Richard went into town for some provisions whilst I cleaned the bathrooms and ran the engine to charge the batteries – cooling the fridge is taking quite a bit of energy as the water temperature is quite high and it is working hard to maintain itself.

This evening we had a quiet night on board in the cockpit enclosure with the sides up to enjoy some of the sea breeze – it is slightly cooler this evening at 25 degrees; we hope for a more peaceful night…
