Today we invited Moonshadow for an inauguration dinner for the microwave – with everything cooked in the microwave.  So I spent the day getting in a few more fresh stores and preparing food into microwave dishes ready for the evening.

We asked Peter to do the official opening and cut the ribbon that Richard had fastened across the door; then I was able to cook.  The only problem with a microwave is the time they take when heating larger amounts for 4 people, one item at a time – even if everything is ready to go.  Two pints of French Onion soup, 4 salmon steaks, vegetables and a pint of Hollandaise sauce is definitely quicker when cooked the traditional way.  Still, Peter got his dinner eventually…

The reason we had waited until now for the dinner was that I wanted to do a Heinz Treacle Pudding in the microwave as they are perfect microwave fodder, taking hours on the stove and 2 minutes in the microwave.  Luckily Morrisons did not let me down and we demolished nearly 2 of them with lashings of custard J
