Thursday 10th April – Puerto Sherry

The rain slowly changed from heavy rain, to showers, then eventually stopped altogether with the sun even venturing out at times. The wind has continued with a vengeance all day – mostly strong F6/7.  Fortunately Pyxis has her nose into the wind so it has been quite comfortable.

At lunchtime we went ashore to have a look at the swell in Cadiz Bay - offshore there have been SW gales blowing and the swell is now very high.  >From Pyxis we had been able to see the spray above the harbour wall as the waves crash into it.

When we walked across the boat yard to the wall we could see that it was not a good day to be out, and then went around the marina to the outer harbour wall to have a better look – with the waves breaking against the rocks we were soon wet from the spray.

Amazingly, as we watched, a large steel yacht, around 20 metres, with twin masts decided to leave the marina.  It was one that had come in the day before.  It was soon taking a heavy pounding as it motored straight into the wind and swell.  We wondered what sort of delivery schedule it was on to go out in such conditions – with the winds due to increase further in the afternoon – it certainly didn’t look like they were having fun.

After lunch Richard fixed the tap in the galley and then I started cleaning and rearranging the galley cupboards – something I have been threatening to do for a long time.

Late afternoon Peter and Carola popped around for coffee and cakes.
