Monday 31st December – Lagos (New Year’s Eve)

This evening we had dinner with some friends, Charles and Jules on their boat, Dayspring.  There were five couples and we each took something along.

At eleven o’clock we walked down into town, taking some champagne for the New Year celebrations.  We stood at the waterfront just opposite where the firework display was set up and were joined by some more couples from the marina.

At midnight the fireworks started – all the towns along the Algarve (Lagos, Portimão, Albufeira, Vilamoura, etc.) set off a display and from where we were standing we could see all the displays along the coast so we had a fantastic time.

After this we had a wander around town; whereas the Brits celebrate up to midnight, the Portuguese start at midnight and so the party was just warming up !

We wandered back to one of the bars in the marina where some of the others had stopped on the way back to continue festivities.  We stayed to about 3am, so early by Portuguese standards…
