MERRY CHRISTMAS TO EVERYONE

and thank you all for your good wishes J

Today was Christmas Day, but bright and sunny, and we made sure it was as traditional as it could be (except for the bright and sunny, that is).  So, we woke up late and squeezed the fresh oranges and opened the Champagne (ok - Portuguese equivalent) to have the traditional bucks fizz breakfast.  Obviously, we then had to finish the Champagne before the fizz went out of it!

We then strolled off to the hotel for some internet so that we could speak to our families before heading back to cook the Christmas lunch (duck for Richard, nut roast for me).

Unfortunately it was too late for the Queen’s speech by the time we were ready so let’s hope it was a good one.

After lunch we visited Stephen and Anne on Wandering Dragon who have kindly given us a fondue set for Christmas.  For those reading our blog regularly - why is it whenever we ask someone to dinner they end up taking affirmative action ready for the next time ? You may recall one of our other guests arranged the following morning for the loan of an air compressor to fix our oven !

Most importantly, I managed to coax Anne’s recipe out of her for mincemeat – she had made some for her mince pies as she hadn’t been able to find any here, no recipe, just guesswork; it was a triumph – better than the real thing!

Unusually, they were eating even later than us and so we left them to eat their Christmas dinner after a few glasses and headed back to the boat.  We got back just in time – it started to rain about 10 minutes later.

Luckily the rain abated and Stephen and Anne came over with the Scrabble set as planned and we were able to share our Christmas pudding with them, suitably soaked and flamed with brandy.

And by the way, Champagne seems to cure a sore throat – I’ve been fine all day!
