Wednesday 19th December – Lagos (storm bound)

37:06.610N 8:40.494W

Last night was a fairly sleepless night, not due to wild partying, but due to the wind howling through the rigging and the boat leaping around on her moorings.  At one point Richard got up to see what was going on and the wind was blowing force 8-9.

We got up to the delights of a thunderstorm and bucketing rain.  The thunderstorms, with spectacular lightning, continued rolling over us all day.

In one brief respite, Richard went to check on a neighbouring boat and had to stay there for a while to fix its winter cover that had snapped a securing line in the strong winds, and then he had to stay there a while longer waiting for a slightly less drenching opportunity to get back.

The weather eased a little around 4pm so we made a dash to the seafront to see the southerly swell crashing onto the rocks at the harbour entrance (not a day for a rubber boat trip to Alvor) and then a dash to the showers.  We got back just before it all started again.

We are expecting the same again tonight!
