Monday 8th August – Sani Marina, KhalkidhikiUK

Despite this being a holiday complex with lots of activities available and restaurants and bars at the side of the marina, there was little noise last night and we slept well.  There was a pleasant, relaxed holiday atmosphere when Richard went for a walk around after dinner.

With our transfer not until 4pm we spent the day tidying Pyxis and packing.  I decided to take advantage of the washing machine here – washing the bedding went fine and it was soon on the line drying, however, the towels were another matter…

… I returned to the machine to find a flashing red light on the panel and the washing still wet and soapy.  The office quickly sent an engineer down and after cleaning the filter we put the machine on again.  However, the problem reoccurred and the engineer came again, this time he sat and watched the machine to make sure it finished OK.  Eventually the towels were washed and fortunately, with the hot sun and fresh breeze, they just about dried in the time before we left.

With everything finished and a few minutes in hand we went for a quick swim to freshen up and then made our way to the hotel with our baggage for the transfer.  Soon we were on the coach and on our way to the airport.

At the airport we had one more challenge.  It was a completely full flight and having booked right at the last minute we had to take pot luck with the seating arrangements; we found that most of the seats had been pre-booked and unusually we had to sit apart at different ends of the aircraft.  The lady at the check-in desk had us more concerned for a moment though – the way she put it when she first spotted the problem with the seat allocation was that there were no seats for us, fortunately she then went on to explain that there were no seats together.  Maybe it was just her way of managing our expectations so that we were grateful for the seats we did get.

We landed on time at Gatwick where, after a wait for the luggage, we were pleased to find Gill and Mark waiting for us to give us a lift back to Richard’s Mum’s.
