Wednesday 20th July – Mirina, Limnos, Greece

This morning Richard reviewed the weather forecast and decided we would not be comfortable staying at anchor in the strong southerly going to westerly due this evening as the anchorage is open to the west out through the harbour entrance.

Only one yacht left the quay this morning and the gap was too tight for us, particularly with the weather due to get up.  Richard went in on the dinghy and checked no one else was leaving and then spoke to the guys on the fishing trawler alongside the quay wall on the west of the harbour.  They were happy for us to go alongside them and so that is where we now are, tucked up alongside.  The smaller German boat has taken the space on the quay with the other yachts.

After we were safely secured alongside Richard went to complete the paperwork for checking into Greece at the Port Police.  We then went for a walk into Mirina – along the narrow main street lined with shops, through to the beach on the other side of the castle, and then back around the cafés and restaurants by the tiny inner fishing harbour.

This afternoon we took the dinghy across to the beach and spent our time swimming and sunbathing there before coming back to Pyxis for a sundowner – when the guys turned up for their evening shift I handed round the beers to say thanks for their help this morning.

This evening the wind is getting up.  A few more yachts arrived and have struggled to find space as the quay is full; a couple of them who arrived just before and after nightfall have anchored and there was even a large motor launch who came in at midnight but went away again.  Mirina harbour is a bit busy this evening!
