Tuesday 19th July – Bozcaada – Mirina, Limnos, Greece

The forecast force 2-4 north easterly, becoming north northwest later, was perfect for today’s trip across to Limnos – but the wind never showed up.  We motored the whole way with barely a breath of air.  The positive side was that we had current with us for most of the way and so were able to travel at 6.5-7 knots which kept our journey time down.

Nearing Limnos we spotted a couple of leaping tuna so I deployed my fishing line, but no fish were interested in attaching themselves to my hook.  We saw dolphins a few times but we were joined by a lone dolphin who stayed around for quite a while swimming at our bow; now we are back in the Aegean, the water is crystal clear again and we can see them much easier below the water.

Here at Mirina, the main town on Limnos, we have anchored off the beach and have a lovely setting.  I immediately went swimming to cool off and bask in the clear water.  I swam the anchor to check it was fine and it is happily buried in sand.  Whilst I was swimming, our friends on the German boat arrived, having anchored over night on the south of Limnos and they are now anchored near us.

We spent the rest of the afternoon blowing up the dinghy.  Richard took it for a test drive to make sure the outboard was still working; we haven’t used the dinghy or outboard yet this season.  There seems to be a small leak somewhere in the dinghy as there is some water coming in but nothing too serious.

This evening I cooked aboard and we sat in the cockpit enjoying the view.
