Sunday 12th June – Avşa Adasi (Turkeli), Sea of Marmara

This morning we awoke to cloud and rumbling thunder and were pleased that we had replaced the netting in the cockpit enclosure with the window panels just before going to bed.  As we were having breakfast in the cockpit, it started raining with a lightning and thunder accompaniment, as the weather forecast had predicted, and we duly decided to stay put and have a day here on the island.

Mid-morning Zephyr came to say cheerio as they were heading off to Erdek to try to escape the rain.  After they had slipped their lines, Pyxis was left on her own in the harbour with just a few small fishing boats for company.  There have been one or two locals down during the day but mostly it has been quiet.

We relaxed on board, Richard finding time to don his editor’s hat to check and post the overdue blogs, me finding time to finish a good book.

Late afternoon the rain gradually eased into a British drizzle and then stopped altogether.  Once the rain had cleared, the ground quickly dried and we hopped onto the quay to cut Richard’s hair.

Later, we went for a walk to the small village at the top of the hill behind the harbour.

Feeling refreshed after some time ashore, we headed back for an early supper and enjoyed the sunset view from the cockpit.
