Monday 6th June – Mitilíni, Lesbos (Mantamados)

This morning we went to the bus station to take yesterday’s planned bus trip.  We weren’t sure where we wanted to visit so we made our choice by what buses were available with return buses the same day (there were some that would have left us stranded until tomorrow).

We selected Mantamados at the top of the island and slightly inland; this was in part due to there being a Dutch lady ahead of us buying tickets for the same place and she said there was a large church to see there.  So it was on the bus and off on the mystery bus tour up the coast.

We were pleased that we had the Dutch lady with us as she spoke some Greek and ensured we got off at the right place – which turned out to be a monastery next to a military establishment about 1 km or so out of town (we had thought it would be a church in the middle of town).

It was well worth the visit and afterwards we had lunch at the café attached to the monastery before walking into town for a wander around.  On the way we got pleasantly lost down the small side streets and eventually found the bus stop for the return trip – bumping into the Dutch lady again en route.

We had a really nice day and we are hoping that there are fewer dramas in town tonight.
