Sunday 8th May – Epidavros

Last night we went straight to sleep and slept soundly, but then awoke about midnight as we heard the wind building; we went on deck and let out some more chain (as a sleeping pill) – we noticed that the yacht nearest us had crew on deck and had moved and reset its anchor due to the wind building (reassuringly competent), then we went back to sleep.

This morning we woke early having slept well and it was dry rather than dewy on deck so we were able to have an early breakfast in the cockpit enclosure.  The racing flotilla were up fairly promptly and off for another race (going nowhere fast though as there was no wind – it took them all morning to sail across the entrance).

The Nielson flotilla were supposed to vacate at 10am but left us waiting until 2.30pm, by which time there were about three of us waiting; it was quite a social event, anchoring up, chatting across the boats as we queued waiting for the flotilla to leave.

Once tied up against the wall we spoke to a couple we met here this time last year and they informed us that the harbour wall was apparently legally no longer there (apparently they had started to divert the road along the quay to make the existing road a pedestrian area when some planning anomaly came to light).  Disappointingly there was also no longer water and electricity available.

Still, Richard was able to take trolley and cans and top up our fuel.  By the time he had done this it was getting late and as we hadn’t been off the boat in quite a few days, we trotted ashore to a local taverna for dinner and drinks.  I was delighted to find that the Greek version of Strictly Come Dancing was on the TV (Live) and it took Richard three dances to get me out of there after dinner!
