Wednesday 20th April – Messolonghi (Engine Servicing)

It was another day with some sunshine.

This morning Richard discovered that we didn’t have as much gearbox oil as he thought so headed off into town to get some more.  This proved to be more problematic than expected, turning out to be a rerun of his trip yesterday but cycling the other way around town – once again he found the one he wanted in the last place he looked – he needs to learn to look in the last place first!

So this afternoon Richard got around to servicing the engine.  Such a short sentence doesn’t really do it justice, it involves pulling everything (cushions, stores, tools, etc.) out of the back cabin to get access, then poking around in small spaces trying not to spill oil or diesel or water all over the place – by the time he finished and everything was tidied away back into the cabin and the oil pumps cleaned up it was past 9.30.

Normally when he services the engine, I try to do other jobs but this year I simply sat around on stand-by.  In past years I have usually been half way through something, or up to my armpits in the washing, when I get a shout to help urgently (usually to pass the kitchen roll) so this year I decided to simply sit and wait for the call.  This seems to have done the trick as he managed the whole thing without an emergency kitchen roll incident J.

So very late I cooked dinner and we relaxed with a DVD.
