Thursday 22nd July – Messolonghi

The heat today has been oppressive, mid 30’s all day, and we haven’t felt like getting on with any jobs at all – so we haven’t, apart from cycling up to Carrefour to restock the fridge; Carrefour has good air-conditioning J

When we arrived here on Tuesday, there was an Italian yacht on a cradle on the quay just along from us – it had just been lifted.  Yesterday they worked very hard on repairs and antifouling.  This afternoon, with the underside done, the crane arrived right behind Pyxis to lift it back into the water into the empty berth to the right of us.  It’s very disconcerting having a yacht lowered into place right alongside you!  I’m not sure who was more worried, us or the owner as they spun the yacht around and dropped it in.  Still, all went fine.

Soon afterwards there was the rumble of thunder from over the mountains, the wind switched direction and started to blow quite strongly while the squall passed through.  Good timing on the part of the crane driver!

This evening it cooled enough to do another job, cut Richard’s hair – it had got so long it was starting to curl J.  Our new neighbours are very industriously re-rigging their boat and cleaning the decks but we don’t feel guilty, we will start on giving Pyxis a spring clean soon.
