Title: Escape river

10:59.101S 142:39.735E

Long day today. Had plenty of wind, rain and seas. The wind was a lot stronger than expected today and we got here way to early, meaning we were crossing the shallow bar in the river entrance at low tide in big seas. That made us so worried that we considered going all the way to Cape York today. We finally made a decision to go for the bar and hope for the best. We had all sail down and still doing 4-5 knots, so there was not much we could do -except carry on. But we calculated the distance and found that timing would be very tight -we probably wouldn't make it to the Cape York anchorage. The bar was OK. Now, we're very happy about being here as it is flat calm and very protected. We're just waiting for the sun to go down, so that we can go to bed. We are going for the cape tomorrow.
