29 hours from and 157NM from Cartagena to here. About 20 hours donking and 8 hours sailing. A wonderful SW F5 for the latter 2 hours and as Sue just said "Pity we didn't have this wind all the way". As is the norm for passage-making in these waters 80% donk and 20% under sail. At least we don't look like a stink-pot!
The night watch was made all the more interesting listening to BBC R4 General Election broadcast. It seems it was all done and dusted immediately the polls shut and BBC announced the closing poll...... and that makes sense! Best thing has to be - there should not need to be another General Election for at least another 5 years - and in meantime our wonderful Members of Parliament can find lots of ways to get into all sorts of bother!
We've good shelter here and we have plenty of protection for everything except NW quadrant. In early hours of morning wind might temporary go N-NW so we've dropped well out the way of couple of yachts struggling to get hook in and making lots noise when we arrived.
We think we'll be hear just the one night and then head due E towards S-end of Sardinia. Now't particularly nasty forecast although looks like we'll be donking into wind for maybe first 2 days. What's new? WE think it's best to burn some diesel and get nearer towards Ionian so that we can have a bit of R&R before lift-out and silverbird home.
Squiddy has been in water most days since Gibraltar. Unfortunately the only tuna we've nibbled has come out of a tin, Maybe it's time to 'refresh' squiddy?
Spoke to Andrew m6eeg on SSB last night. Wonderful signal considering he can only transmit on low power/10W. Must be the new supa-duppa antenna he's just installed and benefiting from some excellent propagation?
Also pleased to report Sue's cough can be drowned-out by the noise from the donk - especially when the cabin door is closed. Fortunately the cough is beginning to go and Sue reports feeling better.
