Subservient Captains Log Sunday evening our position 67 deg Porto Santo 77NM. One more night (for now).
Been a pleasant day, if mostly overcast. Wind went to ENE/E3 which wasn't best for us. Nevertheless made everything we could heading mostly W'ly with the promise wind will back giving us more direct course to Porto Santo towards sunset ......... and it has! Hence, we're still sailing merrily along, likely arriving noon'ish tomorrow. Squiddy's has a leisure day - no bites whatsoever. Checked engine and took-up some slack in alternator belt (not easiest of jobs when rolling around working with some almost inaccessible fixings). Also, took opportunity to 'explore' an old gremlin. "Why we have water in bilge when freshwater tanks are filling?" Found and replaced the offending fitting, which has been inappropriately over-tightened by persons unknown before first splash! Fortunately, we have replacement parts on board so jobs a good-un now - so no more mysterious water leaking into bilge when watermaker maketh into stbd tank.
Big success is our genoa whisker pole. Without this recent addition there's no way we could have successfully and peacefully sailed very broad reaching these past two days. During daylight we've full mainsl (with preventer)& genoa (poled out). Night time one reef mainsl & almost two reefs in genoa, sacrificing little boat speed for good safety margin in dark and more than comfortable with this arrangement and the reefs make for easier ride.
Night night xxxx
