Up early this morning at 0700 to enable us to be underway promptly before 0900. As things worked out we slipped-lines at 0830, which is pretty good considering we hadn't surfaced before 1000 since arriving Portimao 19 days ago! Whilst we enjoyed first few days on hook we realised we needed to berth inside the marina if wanting respite from the relentless swell after 3 days and nights of rock n' roll. Marina berth proved to be a worthy investment because the following 9 nights were peacefully perfect and it was handy to be able to socialise with Caryl & Peter (s/y Dancing Queen) once they arrived last Thursday. The other reason we took a marina berth was because the weather was grim and persistently raining at the time. Fortunately, in last few days the weather has improved day after day and yesterday we reached a healthy 30ºC for most of the afternoon and well into the evening. We're expecting much the same today (or so we're promised).
We've about 140NM to put us S of Cabo Trafalgar, where we want to be just after mid-day tomorrow. No sooner because we are seeking a favourable tidal stream from that position onwards - past Tarifa and east towards Punta Carnero and onto Gibraltar. Our target average speed is only little over 5kn so we might get chance to sail in the promised very light NE winds. For now we're on the donk because there's hardly any wind at all.
