We're on the hook in a delightful anchorage, which is just to the west of Cocoa Point, on south end of Barbuda Island. We are protected from the Atlantic swell by the many coral reefs to our south. The beach is the finest white sand imaginable - the reason why the water is unclear. A small price to pay for being in a beautiful anchorage. Yesterday we were invited for sundowners on 'Navana' a 62ft catamaran owned by Morgan and Trish from USA. We'd been speaking to Truri & David (s/y Persephone) who were able to extend invitations to include us. Morgan's speciality is a drink he calls a "Pain Killer" which is made with fruitjuice and lots of rum! Annie made some nibbles (which I sort-off mixed up on passage) and I made couple of bottles of gin & tonic. Unfortunately G&T's over Morgan's Pain Killers are a bit of a drink too far and getting back to Ticketeeboo was largely down to Annie & Mike taking good care of me. I was in bed for half eight feeling bit worse for wear this morning.
We joined the others again today for a tour of the island. We visited a sink-hole which is a 45 minute walk each way from the road. We then visited the Frigate bird sanctuary, which we accessed with a guide on Codrington Lagoon by speedboat. I now know lots more about the life of Frigate birds, which typically live 45 years and each year the males fly-off at Easter time and migrate to other parts of the world, leaving the females and youngsters at the the sanctuary pending their return in September for nookie! We finally stopped for lunch a street vendor offering barbequed chicken, fish or lobster. At just EC$40 (approx £9) the lobster was delicious, served with rice & veg and the owner went to a local shop so that we could have beers to drink. After a whole five and half hours ashore we were back onboard Ticketeeboo at half two - ready for a rest (and stuffed). General consensus is a to stay here tomorrow and depart north Thursday towards St Barthelemy (AKA St Barts), which is just
over 60NM to our NW. In meantime water is warm, sun is hot so we can chill some more!!!
xxxxxxxx to Sue (missing you lots) and family.
