Island hopping up from Grenada to Antigua we decided to spend a couple of
days in Dominica so we could visit some more of the island. Previously we
had done the Indian River tour (the Pirates of The Caribbean mangrove swamp) but
that movie set was destroyed by the hurricane. It is impressive how much
has been rebuilt, most importantly the Purple Turtle cruisers hangout is fully
restored and serving food and drinks.
Not sure it it was ever purple, but it is yellow now (see below).
![]() We took a taxi up to the rainforest national park. Our guide really
knew his botany, and he showed us how the trees had handled the hurricane and
how they were recovering. The rainforest walk was surprisingly unspoiled,
apart from a few trees down. There was a large number of orchids and
other epiphytes on show.
![]() We were lucky enough to catch sight of a pair of Dominican parrots
(although very high up in a tree).
![]() After the forest we visited a refreshing waterfall. For those who
appreciate a bit of eye candy, here I am in the waterfall.
