The fish market in Santa Cruz

In the Santa Cruz fishmarket they clean the fish as soon as they are brought off the boats.  The pelicans queue up for scraps and, as if watching a tennis game, their heads twitch in unison every time they think the guy might be about to throw something away.  Sometimes the scrap is too big for the pelican to swallow whole and then it is stuck with a crop full of fish, with half a dozen other pelicans hustling it and trying to make it spit it out.
