Each year the ARC arranges a tree planting to help
restore the Gran Canaria forests, which were 99% destroyed by being
harvested for ship repairs, back in the days when ships were made of wood
and the trade winds were used for trade instead of
recreation.
People were concerned that not everyone would get a
change to actually plant a tree, but there were 112 trees to plant between
the 30 of us, so plenty of opportunity to dig holes. Andrea and I
managed 12 trees between us.
At eleven seconds and eleven minutes past
eleven we paused for a photo opportunity. We worked most efficiently
with me digging the holes and Andrea doing the tree planting
and protective fencing. However, Andrea was not going to miss
the opportunity to be captured in a threatening pose holding a deadly
weapon, so here she is posing by a hole that I dug.
Still no sign of the wind
instruments.
