One advantage of the detour to Puerto Rico was that the shopping there is
almost as good as the mainland US. I could go to JC Penney and Sears to stock up
on discounted cargo shorts and sandals, and Andrea could go to Me $alve to buy
$3 pyjama shorts for lounging around when on passage.
Another advantage is that we got to visit historic Ponce town and also to
go to the beautiful island of Caja de Muertos once more.
We are still suffering from the after-effects of the Caribbean
crossing. The external VHF handset, chart plotter and anchor chain counter
have all failed. Too much salt water in places it shouldn’t reach.
The VHF handset just needs a new cord. The anchor windlass needs a major
service. The chart plotter probably needs a new power supply.
A “must see” is the old fire station...
