Title: Cruising up to the BVIs

18:21.9N 64:20.9W

We have set off on the next stage of our voyage, to cruise up the east coast of America.  No firm itinerary yet, but it would be fun to be anchored off New York on July 4th and watch the fireworks over Long Island.  There is also an Ocean Cruising Club rally in Maine in the middle of August that we might attend.  We should be able to do some of the journey along the intracoastal waterway, although our mast is too tall to be able to get under all the bridges.

Since leaving St Lucia we day-sailed all the way up to St Barthelemy (St Barts to the Brits or St Barth to the French), stopping at  Martinique, Dominica, Guadeloupe, Antigua and St Barts.  We said goodbye to Daniel in Antigua and it is just the two of us for now.  Daniel’s departure was a bit fraught because we missed the check-in the evening before (Antigua customs close at 16:00) and his flight was at 9:40 the next morning, so we had to check him in at 8 am in English Harbour and then rush him to the airport in a taxi.  We got there 40 minutes before the flight took off, but it was touch and go whether they would let him board.

Last night we did a hop from St Barts to the Virgin Islands.  It was the first time we have had to do an overnight trip just the two of us.  It went fine, but it is going to be tiring when we have to sail for several days non-stop.
