Two days ago we took a flight from Auckland to Cristchurch. There we hired a car and drove to Akaroa. Akaroa is a small summer tourist place. Nice but not very interesting. Now we are back in Cristchurch, and tomorrow we shall go west in direction of Mt Cook, but stay overnight in Twizel. Hopefully the weather will allow for a tramp (that is what hiking is called here) the day after tomorrow.
Christchurch has many open places, wounds after the earthquakes in 2011 and 2016. New buildings have been built of course, but the city is only partly rebuilt. The new buildings are in a modern style, not nessecerily charming all of them. But they show the strength to go on.
And in this city the awful terrorism stroke just little more than a week ago, and 50 innocent and peaceful people were shot to death. Another serious wound to heal. We have seen written words and drawings that say that love shall conquer evil. If I were religious I would have said, let us prey for this city, and that people here shall have strength.
