We took the ferry over to St.Kitts today. We thought we should find a taxi driver that could take us around the island. We did not. Probably we did not search enough, but the ones we talked to, would only do their standard trip. After some time we chose a bus tour instead. We were more or less fooled. The bus stopped on just a few of the sites we had been promised. We found that we did not like the attitude towards tourists in St. Kitts. It was so different from Nevis. Here people are friendly and helpful, and have a much more flexible approach to tourists. In St. Kitts we felt that we could not trust the providors.
We recomend Nevis to all cruising sailors. We cannot say the same about St. Kitts.
The problem in St. Kitts is the many cruising ships. They create a market in the town that may be lukerative to the bus drivers and the taxi drivers and the shops in the port area, but it ruins a lot for other tourists. And we shall never go on a bus tour designed for cruise ship passengeres again.
Here in Nevis are few cruise ships and no "all inclusive" hotels. That makes for a better life for visiting sailors.
