Sunday 12th March

1st part of the canal negotiated without mishap. Our pilot arrived on the scheduled time of 7am and we were off to join the northbound convoy in a matter of minutes. I had managed to connect our little mains battery charger to shorepower overnight so the engine started O.K. despite the solar panel/battery combo not doing their stuff in the day. We have tied up alongside a newish concrete wall which is part of a wet dock for 2 brand new massive motoryachts. I am hoping for some diesel to be arranged and to hear about tomorrows pilot but Capt Heebi has passed us over to the 'marina' manager here and so far he is absent.
There are several excavators working a few yards away building up the waterside with loads of duty stone. Suez was dusty but this is a whole new level of dusty. All our lines are turning to rigid rods with salt and dust.
The complaints about the berthing here have resulted in the $21 fee being dropped. Not a great compensation really.
Our young pilot was urging extra speed so he could catch his ride back to Suez. I resisted mostly but still pushed a it more than I like to. So quite relieved to make it without breaking anything.
