We are at anchor off a little uninhabited island, Talla Talla, not too far from Suakin but easily reached yesterday in the light. We even had time for a shore trip to explore. Another strange landscape- almost barren apart from low scrubby flowering bushes and with a massive natural 20ft high wind shaped sandcastle on the beach. The low hills above the sandy beach are strewn with old coral -odd fluted shapes and a ring of stones suggests an attempt at former occupation. Tracks in the sand suggest some small wildlife but only pink crabs seen scuttling along the beach.
The forecast looks friendly enough for the next few days -head winds but not more than 10-12kn so we plan to skip Suakin and keep heading north for Suez and the Med.
I have managed to secure the furling drum back to the sail track, hopefully as well if not better than before, so we will keep the storm jib as backup for the time being.
