SUNDAY 10th June.  Towards Vavau Tonga .

We left the mooring at about 8.30 this morning, gently drifting off in the light breeze and setting the twin jibs with wind dead behind.  The wind built as we cleared the island shadow to a nice 15 knots but the sea became confused and unruly for most of the day, giving a haphazard roly ride. It settled down in the afternoon but with the wind easing back to about 10kn we are plodding  at a pedestrian 4 knots towards Tonga.

I still get the occasional reply when I give my name 'and where's Eve?' So when I introduced myself to the Frenchman the other day and he replied Eve I assumed he was attempting the usual joke.  It turned out that his name is Yves. That is the first time I recall having met a real Eve but I don't think he was as amused by the coincidence as me.

Apparently we loose a whole day when we reach Tonga. Suddenly having been 12 hrs behind you we will be 12 hrs ahead. I can't quite get my head round it.

Happy Birthday Alice!
