Finally departed Langkawi and Malaysia at 3.30pm having planned to leave 1st light. I had belatedly come to realise that the new Skylink satellite device wasn't able to prevent all our emails downloading and quickly gobbling up our meager data allowance. It comes with preset filters for various types of messaging -one being for example the grib weather forecast files. The email filter however is either all email or one particular email program that I couldn't access. So it required a long session with lots of help from AST who provide our space time. They have now blocked everything except my email and are hopefully going to be able to let the weather through once they can get hold of the necessary data from the program developer. AST are based in Great Yarmouth and look after shipping world wide so work 24/7 and respond to queries immediately.

We had spent our last night in Malaysia anchored out in an idyllic bay having completed the check out process with harbour master, customs and immigration, and made a final, final, final trip to Billion supermarket for a couple of extra provisions. Our provisioning method lacks mathematical precision resulting in nagging doubts that we will be left short as we struggle up the red sea with only a small bar of chocolate left in the stores.

Langkawi is very attractive- our cable car trip up the mountain gave stunning views of the island. We met a couple on the beach when we stopped for lunch and could understand why they return every year for a relaxing holiday. Another couple in the Arts café had sailed here in some 20 years previously and never left.

Tempting as it was to do the same we are on a mission to complete the circuit so forced ourselves to move on.

We set sail with a nice NE breeze which was tempting me the hoist the new parasailor but by the time I had laid out he lines the wind was backing north and now has deserted completely us so motor is disappointingly on again.
