Final Farewell to Glacier

“This rare place in North America where grizzly bears live at peace with people – wolves, once persecuted close to extinction here found peace and safety when they crossed the 49th parallel back into Glacier National Park to reclaim their wilderness birthright”.
People are killed and injured here by grizzlies but it is generally peaceful between humans and bears. Shockingly close as our encounter was, the bear let us walk away. We had our first thimbleberries, packed with flavour, a favourite with all bears that can eat up to 100,000 a day. The campsites had all the fire grates removed as the grease and food left adhering were attracting grizzlies. It’s berry season so bear close encounters are almost expected.
We saw elk, moose, fox and all 3 species of hummingbird. Glacier really delivered a wildlife spectacle to remember.

As for the scenery, described by 1000 Places To See Before You Die as “soul inspiring landscape carved by the movement of massive glaciers millennia ago”, and Robin Williams, “If it isn’t God’s backyard He certainly lives nearby.”
As an American would say, the scenery is awesome; but we had some fog and poor light, so our photographs do not really show the magnificence we saw.
