Terrible food, friendly people, pretty island.

Until 1957, this was the sea in front of Caplinhos Lighthouse. People were resettled to America as houses were buried in ash. The lighthouse keeper never left the lighthouse, even during the worst eruptions, which lasted over a year and added 2.6km of land to Faial – amazing.
