Azores - Sao Miguel
37.44.287n 25.39.876w 25th July-1st Aug A tortuous night of no wind and just drifting, had to motor today. Well cheered up by our first sighting of 2 grey whales side by side, but followed by more of the same weather. Then, exactly where the weather forecast stated - wind - hurray! Sailed for a few days, then as expected, motored the last two days in a mill pond Atlantic. Sao Miguel Beautiful countryside with hedgerows of hydrangeas.
The towns have some pretty buildings, some not. Checking in was a long 4 office process with four different officials; for the first time ever we had to produce proof of VAT paid. Went for a great walk around and up and down a volcanic crater with two lakes, one green, one blue inside the main caldera. Will now carry on to other islands for a while. |
