Leaving Rangiroa
Salamander

Leaving via the Taputa pass left a few raised
eyebrows. Murray decided the weather was suitable for his skimpy rainbow
swimmers, much to the amusement of the local dive boat handlers. A lovely sail
for the first day and a half, even reaching 6.8 knts briefly with the current
between Rangiroa and Tikehau helping us along. Sadly the wind dropped and we had
15 hours of motoring at reduced revs as as the fuel from Galapagos could be
cleaner. (A boat leaving 2 days after us suffered strong winds and heavy seas,
so our timing was fortuitous - and based on an unusually accurate
forecast)
Now in Tahiti for some maintenance and minor
repairs. Not surprising as we have now covered over 11,500
miles.
