The next campground was lovely, backing onto a beach with the fattest squirrels we had ever seen. The whole of this area was occupied by the Spanish and a series of missions were set up along the coast road. We went to the continually occupied Mission in Santa Barbara, possibly the cleanest town in California. Caroline is currently reading a history book of the Spanish Inquisition and her book's details of the Spanish Inquisition did not match up to the Mission's statement of Franciscan Monks working alongside the Indians!!! ![]() ![]() ![]() Normally in darkness, the lights were
turned off after the service just after taking this photo, so
visitors don't often get to see it. |
