Central Coast cont
The next campground was lovely, backing onto a beach with the fattest squirrels we had ever seen. The whole of this area was occupied by the Spanish and a series of missions were set up along the coast road. We went to the continually occupied Mission in Santa Barbara, possibly the cleanest town in California. Caroline is currently reading a history book of the Spanish Inquisition and her book's details of the Spanish Inquisition did not match up to the Mission's statement of Franciscan Monks working alongside the Indians!!!
Normally in darkness, the lights were
turned off after the service just after taking this photo, so
visitors don't often get to see it.
