Canyonlands take 2

The Needles part of Canyonlands is not accessible from Islands In The Sky and this is out of season for this part of the park. Our mothers can relax because we have no rope and cannot explore the Maze area walks.

Instead we take a picturesque walk to the Chesler viewpoint and back. A few ups and downs, squeezes through narrow slots and we are viewind yet more weird rocks. We sit in a gap between two rock walls in a pleasant wind tunnel. Two rather large ravens watched as we munched through our sausages and then apples.

If we thought the ravens got close, our chocolate cake, ice cream and fresh coffee got the critters attention at the visitor centre. As the park has no dump station, RV water fill or cafe/restaurant of any sort, we had some envious human glances too.

We arrived at Canyonlands Needles Outpost campsite and Caroline was delighted to see a kangaroo rat bounce along the track. The privately owned campsite is so quiet we slept for 10 hours for both nights. We have jackrabbits, bats and hummingbirds all zooming round our pitch and our own private scramble up some red rock for sunset views.
Murray was even happier when our campsite host, the lovely Amber, made him a chocolate milkshake, some of which Caroline snaffled away.
