Day two
Day two was hopefully our push to the Lost
City tour. The
walking had Caroline still puffing uphill and Murray helped by
carrying the
camera.
The jungle flora was beautiful
And by mid-day we had arrived at camp.
Unfortunately due to
rain we couldn’t carry on up to the Lost City, but had an
afternoon off. The
river pool here was somewhat more refreshing and we had an
afternoon nap, what
a luxury. The evening passed in talks on the history and customs
of the local
tribe. Originally, we were told, that at age 18 boys and girls
are matched,
married, they live in a hut together until their first child. A
second hut is
then built for the man and sex only takes place outside. The
following day this
was amended to the boys at age 16 sleeping with a woman over 45
to ensure they
had the right experience for their bride. How true this is we
have no way of
checking.
Thankfully the mattresses at camp 3 were a little wider, so we
didn’t have to
be separated at night!
