Oeiras to Lagos
Salamander
Wed 2 Sep 2009 11:20
Too much wind to put the sails up, then after we
managed to get the main up reefed, the wind died completely, so had to motor
briefly. Reached peninsula - rounded the corner then a 24 hour sail with
two reefs in the main and gusts up to 60kph, so moderate sea state. Boat
brill.
Saturday morning saw all the wind go. Putting up
the genoa slowed us down to 1.9 knots. Gave up and motored the final bit of the
way. Boiling hot - from full oilies and wellies to deckshoes and shorts.
Dolphins, fabulous night skies, but no sleep for any of us.
Anchored off Lagos.
Swimming off the boat. Aggressive locals in poer
boats and jet skis deliberately spend all afternoon at full speed making wake
around the anchored yachts, even spraying one yacht to get them to move
on.
