The rebuilding begins
The cordonned off and empty high rises look eerily dark behind the street lights. "What happened, an earthquake, miaow". Investment confidence! The changing shape of Bahia, notice the intact bathroom mirror! A few buildings were built earthquake proof with the upper storeys resting on pads on top of well built concrete columns, like the bridge, others fell because the concrete actually crumbled. Sue, with Rob in the pic, has a home built largely of bamboo and it suffered no damage.
Lorry loads of bamboo has been used as props and scaffolding as in pic. There's a lesson in there. As soon as buildings are deemed safe with a blue or green notice they are repaired and set back to use.
Inside the new market as before the quakes, or outside under temporary tarps the market goes on for everyone's benefit.
