Our 6am start went well as we took the anchor up and glided out of the bay, however once in the Gulf of Corinth the head winds blew up to 25 knots and with an opposing current the sea became quite disturbed.

We hugged the coast where the water was a bit calmer and by midday we were approaching the Rion - Andirrion suspension bridge which spans one mile across the narrow straight.

Finished in 2004 this bridge is the longest cable stayed bridge in the world with an air height of between 25 and 45 metres at its centre.

Our mast is 23 metres high but it still looked like a close shave as we passed under !

The sea became instantly calmer once we were through the narrow straight and we have enjoyed a nice sunny afternoon despite continued motoring as the wind has now decreased to nothing.

We have covered 70 miles so far toady and our ETA for the anchorage at Sarakinko on the NE side of Ithaca is around 1930.

So we should be settled for sundowners and I am going to cook up a chicken curry tonight.
