We spent Thursday in Ismalia and, although we were checked out of Egypt and not allowed ashore, we enjoyed a good lunch at the yacht club for £5 per head.

4 Courses which all arrived at once !

The day was also busy with lots of consulting about the weather forecasts in the Med, we still had a window of opportunity Fri night until Sunday afternoon.

The earlier we could leave Friday morning, the better to avoid high winds near to Crete on Sunday evening, so we spoke to Yasser to see if we could leave around 5am for our final leg through the Suez.

Our transit 6 months earlier had involved two rude awakenings in the early hours so we knew it was possible, but not this time !

Friday 5th April 2013

Several war ships passed through Ismalia early this morning and so we were not able to leave until 9.00am, not too late and it could have been worse, a delay of a day and we would have be stuck for more than a week !

Below you can see the war ships passing through the canal early this morning whilst Blue Magic and Sol Maria wait on their moorings at Ismalia, there is a French yacht moored between us.

We have been very lucky with both our pilots this time, today we welcomed ‘Hammy’ who took our photos and gave us each an Egyptian key ring before settling down at the helm with his Arabic to English dictionary !

Passing the only bridge over the canal, a lovely sunny day but the wind is starting to blow and there is a distinct chill in the air.

I hear Hurghada is warm this time of year !
