Saturday 27th November

We moored up on pontoons in the river, opposite the yacht club by early afternoon.

The Yacht Club was very accommodating and provided a free shuttle ferry to run us back and forth to the club, so Mark set off with Jackamy and Bionic to check into Malaysia at customs, harbour control and immigration, they were gone for three hours ! The good news was that it only cost us 4 US$ for all three yachts.

Sunday 28th November

We had a nice meal in the yacht club that night and the following morning we went into Kulang Town for a wander.

The town was quite a contrast to Singapore with dirty and shabby buildings however the atmosphere was lively and friendly with street markets, a variety of food stalls and colourful shops.

We spent the afternoon relaxing, reading and taking a swim in the Yacht Club pool before skyping the family.

Monday 29th November

An early 6.00am start for the 95 mile trip to Pangkor Island. Lots and lots of colourful fishing boats on route, trawling or pulling in their nets and we had great fun weaving our way around them.

We arrived at the anchorage at dusk with Miss Tippy and Bionic. We kept the radio on so that we could direct Jackamy and Sol Maria into the anchorage in the dark, when they arrived around 10.00pm.

Tuesday 30th November

After scanning all the pilot books and information we decided to head for one of the small islands at the beginning of the Langkawi group which will take us overnight, arriving in daylight tomorrow morning.

There was an option of stopping in Penang but we are a bit ‘towned out’ and the entrance is a bit tricky, especially as we would have to enter under a bridge that is not much higher than our mast.

Langkawi sounds delightful, it is a group of 104 islands with lots of protected anchorages, and three marinas on the main island.

There are lots of dive and snorkelling sites, beaches and a large freshwater lagoon on one of the islands, not to mention the chance to stock up with duty free before Christmas.
