A very disturbed night at the Pitons !

The local farmer walked his cows around to the waterside after dark and the cows made very loud noises all night long, the smell of the sulphur pools permeated the boat and heavy rain woke us up coming through the hatch, not to mention the uncomfortable swell !

We left early and sailed past St Vincent and into Bequia, anchoring just off the town at 3pm this afternoon.

The trip was exciting sailing and I was laying down feeling a bit comatosed, after little sleep during the night combined with a bit of sea sickness, when the fishing line ran out !

After running to the rod and reeling in for some time, I pulled up a 4-5lb King Barracuda which my assistant, Mark, quickly netted !

I hit it twice on the head, hard, but it still wriggled around the deck so we left it to die before attempting to remove the hook and fillet it.

It has very large sharp teeth and there are holes on the opposite side of it’s jaws so that it can clamp it’s teeth into the holes and trap it’s prey !!

Must go – having fish and chips tonight !
