Weekly retail therapy !
Last night we went for another wander
around the souk (market) for some retail therapy. Not quite like shopping in West Quay but
hey, it has been very entertaining buying weird presents to bring home ! Embroidered scarves, perfumed oils and
even more frankincense, I have drawn a line at any more camels. Paul and As you can see Paul was very interested
– he loves shopping ! Of course there are no bars for the men
to stop for a beer and Paul didn’t take up the offer of a haircut and
facial at one of the many barbers, which Mark enjoyed on our last visit. However we did find a good juice bar where
we stopped and watched the locals. There are no women to be seen out at
night and it is interesting to watch the men in their Dishdash (long dresses)
and various head gear.
I love the little hats that they wear and
at the souk there is a whole row of hat shops where you can buy any size or
design, ready made or made to order. The area surrounding the souk is also
full of men’s tailoring shops where you can order your new Dishdash, the
traditional colour is white but there are lots of variations, mainly amongst
the younger men who are more fashion conscious ! |
