We arrived at the entrance to the pass into Rangiroa around 6.00am this morning but the tide was still ripping out as we approached so we held off for a while and then motored further in to have a look.

After a few attempts we decided to ‘have a go’ at around 7.15am. There is plenty of depth in the pass just the confused tidal eddies and overfalls.

Well it was quite exciting but certainly no more difficult than going through Hurst narrows in the Solent against the tide. We had 5kts of tide against us but managed to make way at 1.5kts through the water.

When we reached the overfalls two huge dolphins came to guide us in, jumping high out of the water on our bow – what an amazing site !

We are now anchored off the Kia Ora Village hotel (more palm covered cabins on stilts over the water) and we are just showering before jumping in the dinghy to go and meet Bev & Martin at the airport at 10.15am which is 2 miles away.

It looks very sleepy ashore so we are hoping to track down a taxi or thumb a lift (which seems to be quite normal on the islands).

I have loaded lots of photos to keep you all amused as it may be a few days before we make another blog entry – we will be very busy playing with our friends !
