Before we departed from Lizard Island we couldn’t miss the bush walk to Captain Cook’s lookout at a point 385 metres above the island where Captain Cook spotted his way out of the reef for his ship ‘Endeavour’, he also named the island after it’s large lizards from the same family as the Komodo Dragons.

It was a hot couple of hours climb even at 7.30am but we were rewarded with great views over the bay and onwards to the main reef. We also got to sign the visitors book which was in a treasure chest at the top and we were very lucky to see one of the island’s famous lizards on our way down.
