Saturday 2nd May

Today we took the early boat trip to Ile De Re, after much recommendation from Annie & David, and took the route under the Re bridge to Saint Martin de Re, the capital of the island.

What a beautiful place, we had petit dejeuner overlooking the harbour whilst the sleepy town woke up, then we hired bikes (yes, even Jan) and cycled the coastal route along with hundreds of other bicycles, tres jolie !

When Mark began flagging we stopped for Lunch at a creperie in Plage de Bois, a close call as it was 2.15pm and most restaurants were closing. A very nice lady took pity on us and served us gallettes, salad nicoise and local rose wine, produced on the island, yum.

Paul & Jan speeding round the corner                                                                                         Mark recovering over lunch in the local creperie

By the time we cycled back into town, the place was alive with people everywhere.

I had taken some photos of an enormous ice cream stall to show Katie.

It was deserted earlier in the morning, by the afternoon there were queues everywhere,

here are the before and after photos !
